Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall betting is banned. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and despite the fact visas are supposedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that features a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which offers ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
